Early Bird Special: The Cast Comes Off Edition

July 2, 2012

Today is the day.

The cast comes off just after noon.

I am SO EXCITED.

Of course, it’s just in the last week that she’s finally become one with it. She’d been doing all right the first three weeks — getting around by scooting and crawling and doing her own thing as much as possible. But during our recent weekend in Maryland, she decided she was over it.

Now she’s spent the last week standing on it, walking, (awkwardly) running, playing at the playground, and even riding her scooter.

I took this photo at our first trip back to the crime scene. In fact, this is the ladder she fell from, as she was climbing to the next rung. We tried to discourage her from doing something else (NO!), tried to help her get up the ladder (NO!), and eventually realized that it was best to just leave her alone. She could only get up this high again without being able to bend her knee, but damn was she proud.

I DID IT! I DID IT! I CLIMB THE LADDER WITH MY CAST! I DO IT BY MYSELF!

You sure did, kid.

New found mobility or not, though — I’m glad we’re back to normal today.

So so glad.
