Random thoughts before the caffeine has kicked in.
The theme of my blog over the last several weeks and into the next couple is going to be, “So much to say, so little time or energy to say it.” Please bear with me.
Things are going well. We’re settling into the apartment more and more with each passing day. We’re unpacking boxes every day, slowly but surely finding places for all of our things, and living in a (mostly) functional apartment. We’ve caught up with most of our immediate family, but still have a few stragglers to nail down — and then it’s on to catching up with old friends. And making new ones.
Today is a big day for all of us — it’s T-Bone’s first day at his new job and the start of new household routines for the rest of us. I’m not sure what the girls and I are going to do, but that’s intentional. I think we’ll simply ease into the day and let it take us where it will.
I’m guessing we’ll make a trip to the train station soon as it is Poppy’s new Favorite Place in the Entire World. I like it because it’s got a cute cafe that serves decent hot coffee and really good breakfast. P likes it because there’s a toy train inside that she can start up with the push of a button and an observation tower — like a castle, mommy! — that we can climb and watch trains from. We’re still working on her understanding of all things suburban (like the fact that the trains only come every hour or so rather than every 10 minutes), but everything in time.
If not the train station, we may go buy a kiddie pool for the yard (omg, we have a yard!) and/or make a trip to our oh-so-awesome public library. Or maybe we’ll pack a picnic lunch and head to a local forest preserve for lunch. Or, if everything feels overwhelming or the girls get cranky or this cup of coffee doesn’t kick in as hard as I’d like, we’ll forgive ourselves, play in the yard a little, watch some cartoons, and unpack some more boxes. Lord knows there’s no shortage of things to do around here.
As much as we’ll miss T’s presence today, I’m not only excited that he’s got an awesome new job to dive into and explore, but I’m also a little excited that he’ll be gone and it’ll be back to just the three of us during business hours. These last two weeks have been a big crazy roller coaster of stress and uncertainty and I’m looking forward to falling into a somewhat boring rhythm again. I could use some monotony in my life for a change.
