Early Bird Special: The Sick as a Dog Edition
Posted on | April 30, 2012 | 2 Comments
Random thoughts before the caffeine has kicked in.
I’m sick as a dog and I am so over it. This is day 4 of being ill, but it’s been weird. Sometimes, I feel fine. A little tired, throat sore, but ok. Then I get a mad case of the chills that no pile of blankets can even come close to fixing and then, before I know it, the chills are gone and I’m sweating so badly that I’m looking for something to mop it up with.
Yes, it’s as gross as it sounds.
I’ve had a fever on/off but it doesn’t linger long. Just pops up, whacks me for an hour, then goes on its merry way.
Upper respiratory infection? The flu? Strep throat? A common cold? I have no idea, but it’s no fun.
So this is my official whiiiiine for the week. I don’t want to be sick anymore. I don’t want to sleep restlessly only to be woken by a young nursling and unable to fall asleep again. I don’t want to sweat through my pajamas. And I don’t want to eat anymore freaking applesauce because it’s one of the few things that soothes my throat.
You hear that, universe? OVER IT.

Watch Boo Grow: Weeks 8-11
Posted on | April 25, 2012 | No Comments
Somehow, Boo is now 11 weeks old. I’ve been good about taking our weekly sock monkey photos, but terrible about sharing them so here’s a batch all at once.
It feels like the last couple of weeks have flown by in a hurry. This is both good and bad. Good because we’re that many weeks past the newness of all this but bad because… well, how is my newborn so… old… already?!
Poppy still adores her little sister, Ewinor Chubby, and she seems to finally be coming around from her early rejection of me, warmly welcoming me back into the rotation for baths, bed time, etc. (which is all largely daddy territory) She even ran into my arms crying after falling down last week — even though T-Bone was right there. That, sadly, was a huge win.
I didn’t talk much about my relationship with Poppy during our earliest weeks together as a family of four because it was so up and down, as were my feelings about it. I knew, rationally, that it was a phase and she was just adjusting in her own way, but emotionally? Having your former snuggle buddy yell, “GET OUT, MOMMY! GO AWAY! I WANT DAAAAADY!” when you try to give her a goodnight kiss?
Ouch, man. Ouch.
Now, I’m back to getting toddler love and kisses and T-Bone is allowed to hold and care for Boo in Poppy’s presence (initially, she freaked if he so much as touched her — MOMMIES TAKE CARE BABIES. NOT DADDIES.).
Whew!
In all of these 11 weeks, Boo has been nothing but a delight. Honestly. We were hoping for a magical unicorn baby and by golly, I think we got one. I know, I know, I shouldn’t say that out loud lest I jinx everything, but I’m not that superstitious. And even if she does a 180 and turns into something from a horror movie tomorrow, these first 2.5 months were SO WORTH IT.
She’s happy. Doesn’t cry much. Nurses like a champ (obviously). Will let anyone hold her. And sleep? OMG THE SLEEP! Let’s just say Poppy was always difficult in that department. Boo, on the other hand? She’s sleeping like Poppy did at 22 months.
Hallelujah!
10 weeks
(Poppy was saying “cheese” only because I promised her a lollipop after.
It’s terribly forced.)
We’re getting loads of smiles out of this little butterball and she’s making new discoveries every day. She’s also still gaining and growing like a weed, currently sporting a 6 month onesie that just barely snaps over her diaper and is stretched over her giant Buddha belly. She’s quite a specimen.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

I couldn’t help myself.
In reality, music class is pretty much Poppy’s favorite thing in the entire world (and the teacher, Chris, her personal hero). She’s usually hamming it up for the crowd from start to finish, but she got briefly emo today and retreated off alone. Who knows what was going through her head at this moment. All she said was, “I play music alone, mommy.”
Well, ok then.
